HULME, I. H. G.

(13 Aug 1920, Elk City Press, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK):

I. H. G. Hulme was born near Elberton, Elbert county, Georgia, October 8,1850.

In January, 1881, he moved to Gainesville, Texas, a year later to Bowie, Texas, and in 1897 he moved to Oklahoma, settling in El Reno.

He moved to Weatherford, [Oklahoma] later, and about eight years ago to Elk City, [Oklahoma] where he died August 7, 1920.

His age was 67 (sic) years, 9 months and 29 days.

Vocationally he spent nearly the whole of his adult life in mercantile business, chiefly general merchandising, altho[ugh] at times being interested in various other industries.

Brother Hulme was married three times, first to Sallie F. Hall, Feb. 28,1869, from which union 13 children were born.

[I added this information between these dashed lines]

Here are the names and dates of birth and death for 11 of the 13 children for Isham And Sallie Fran Hulme that I could verify:

11. Russell M. Hulme 27 Apr 1891 - 1 Feb 1962 Russell M. Hulme Find-A-Grave page

There were other children shown on a Hulme family newsletter that I haven't been able to verify that were part of this Isham and Sallie Fran Hulme family, so I'm not going to list them in this list of 11 children.

This Hulme Family Newsletter was created by Amy Warren Sanders in 1996 and according to this newsletter there are supposed to have been 13 children born to Isham and Sallie Hulme.

Here was the address printed on this Hulme Family Newsletter:

Hulme Family Newsletter Spring 1996
Vol I, No. 2
P.O. Box 7794
Athens, Georgia
30604-7794

You can request a copy of this Hulme Family Newsletter from the Elbert County, Georgia public library in Elberton, Georgia.

These other unverified children were:

1. Veronah Louisa "Lou" Hulme
2. Winnie Aurelia Hulme
3. Janie L. Hulme
4. Calvin Easton Hulme

Here are the 13 children shown on this Hulme Family newsletter:

D. Ella C. Hulme Brown
E. Laura Alvenia (Albenia) Wansley? Bird

K. Janie L. Hulme
L. Oscar Hulme
M. Calvin Easton Hulme

There are two children on this Hulme Family newsletter shown as being born to Isham and his second wife Hannah Jane Hulme.

Here's a link to the Find-A-Grave page for Hannah Jane nee Sackett Hulme:Hannah Jane nee Sackett Hulme Find-A-Grave page

N. James "Jimmie" S. Hulme, which I have since verified.
O. Unknown child Hulme, born and died between 1900 and 1910.

I found a tombstone on the Find-a-grave website page for a child of I. H. G. Hulme and Sallie Fran Hulme that wasn't shown on this Hulme Family Newsletter and that child's name was Nellie O. Hulme. A link to that Find-a-grave website page for Nellie O. Hulme can be found by clicking here:Nellie O. Hulme.

I haven't found any records for Janie L. Hulme, Veronah Louisa "Lou" Hulme, Calvin Easton Hulme, or Winnie Aurelia Hulme and since there was an additional child, Nellie O. Hulme, not shown in this Hulme Family Newsletter, I'm only going to show 11 children for Isham and Sallie Fran Hulme at this time.

A brother of Isham Hulme, named Sanford Hulme, was supposed to have had a daughter named Minnie Aurelia Hulme that was born on the same date as the date shown for Winnie Aurelia Hulme, so perhaps the researcher got these two daughters names confused and there might only be the daughter of Sanford Hulme that actually existed.

This daughter, Minnie Aurelia Hulme, daughter of Sanford Hulme, was supposed to have been married to a man named John H. Duncan.

The second marriage was to Emma F. Frisby, Nov. 4, 1894, whose death occurred eleven months later.

The last marriage was to Hannah J. Sackett, October 29, 1898, to whom two children were born.

Hannah Jane, nee Sackett, Hulme was buried in Summit View Cemetery and she wasn't buried next to her husband, Isham Hamilton Goss Hulme.

The surviving members of the family are the widow and the following children: daughters, Mrs. Mamie Mitchell, Bowie, Texas; Mrs. E. Brown, Chickasha, Okla.; Mrs. Laura Bird, Farmersville, Texas; and sons, G. W. Hulme, Thomas, Okla.; O. H. Hulme, Thomas, Okla.; Russell Hulme, Amber, Okla.; James S. Hulme, Elk City,[Oklahoma].

For many years Brother Hulme was an honored member of the Masonic order, took an active part in its work and had filled nearly all of the higher offices of the order.

Last and best of all, he was a devout believer in Jesus Christ and that religion founded by Christ, the greatest factor for good in the present civilization and moral redemption of the race.

He took this position while yet a young man, and at the time of his death he was one of the two senior elders of the First Christian church of Elk City.

He rests from his labors, and his works continue after him.
