Dottie, one of eleven children, was born on March 18, 1915, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to parents, Alvin R. Welker and Minnie Koontz Welker, both deceased.

Dottie met A.G. Acker, Jr., while both were serving in the Navy during World War II, and they were married in California on July 24, 1945, almost 63 years ago.

After the war they made their home in Jacksonville, where Dottie was a Girl Scout leader for many years and an active member of the First United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She also belonged to the Alpha Omega Sunday School Class, "20-40" Supper Club, and the Cherokee County Genealogy Society.

She is survived by her husband A.G. Acker, Jr.; children, Godbey Acker and his wife Martha of Jacksonville, Donna Acker Hillin and her husband Tom of Houston. "Grandmommy" also leaves behind five grandchildren, Tamara Acker May and her husband Ronald of Tyler, TX, Bry Acker and his wife Jennifer of Arlington, TX, Amanda Acker Grissom and her husband John of Bentonville, AR, Thomas Greg Hillin and his wife Suzanne of Ventura, CA, Chris Hillin and his wife Mavis of West Hollywood, CA; three great-grandchildren, Riley May, Brayden Acker, and Avery Grissom. Dottie is also survived by a brother, Homer Welker and wife Anna Mae; a sister, Norma Smith; and a sister-in-law, Freida Acker.

The family would like to extend our love and deep appreciation to "Miss Dottie's" wonderful caregivers: Vergie Lee, Gwen Herndon, Annie Myrul McClelland, Willie Mae Davis, and Dora Blanton. Also, a special thanks to the staff at Angelina House in Jacksonville.

Visitation will be held at the Autry Funeral Home on Thursday, July 5, 2007, from 7:00-8:00 pm.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, July 6, 2007, at the First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville, TX, with Rev. Kevin King and Dr. Faulk Landrum officiating.
