David was the son of John Gossett and Nancy Crabb. He was married 3 times. First to Margaret J. Ables and had a daughter, Mary. Second time to a Eliza Varner and was the father to Charles Wyman Gossett and third to Lovinia Kaylor and the father to five. Durning the War Between the States he provided meat and produce to the Northern Armies. David was a cooper in Hartford and New Haven, and in the 1890s he was a justice of the peace. When the Gossetts weren't staying in town, they lived on a farm on Broad Run, about a mile above the Kaylor homeplace.nDavid attended the United Brethren Church from 1871. In 1909 the Gossetts moved to Racine, Ohio, across the river from Mason County. He died at Racine on March 10, 1921 from broncho-pneumonia and influenza, and Lovina returned to Mason County, where she lived with her daughter, Lovina Cullen, until her death on December 13, 1936. David and Lovina are buried in the Broad Run Cemetery.
