Mrs. Burgess, born in Sampson County, was the daughter of the late Alston Merritt and Armelia Tew Merritt and the widow of Ralph Aldene Burgess. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a son, R.A. Burgess and three brothers and one sister. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by a daughter, Julie Tanner and husband Ricky, a sister Christine M. Kivett, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren.
The family recieved friends from 6-7pm, Monday, April 25, 2011, the hour prior services at the funeral home. and other times at the home of her grandson Jimmy Burgess.
The funeral services were held at 7pm, Monday, April 25, 2011 at the Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Tony Moore and the Rev. Bryan Burgess officiating.
A graveside service and burial was made at 11am, Tuesday, April 26, 2011 in Rowan Baptist Church Cemetery, Clinton, NC.
