Martin Horne, 93, of Nampa, died on Monday, Oct. 28, 1996, at a Nampa care center. Martin Horne was born on July 1, 1903, in Aneta, North Dakota, to Peter and Sophia Bekkelund Horne. His parents had immigrated from Norway. He was the first of the children born in the United States after his parents had immigrated. The family settled in North Dakota where they farmed. In 1925 he moved to Portland, Oregon, where he met and married Esther E. Becker and they were married on Nov. 20, 1929. They had 6 children. In 1952 they moved to Nampa so their children could attend Northwest Nazarene College. Martin was self-employed as a carpenter and built homes in Oregon, California and Idaho. He was also involved in church construction and farming. His wife preceded him in death on Sept. 9, 1985. He was a very active member of the Grace Bible Church. He spent a number of years serving as Sunday School Superintendent in various Churches that his family attended. He married Irene Bell on June 28, 1986, and they made their home in Nampa.
He survived by his wife, Irene Horne of Nampa; 4 daughters and sons-in-law, Viola and Wes Tucker, Otis, OR, Eleanor and Stan Hansen, Kelso, WA, Virginia and Gerald Zellmer, Davenport, WA, and Joan and Art Ellis, Denver, CO; his son and daughter-in-law, LeRoy and Suzanne Horne, Nampa; a sister, Alice Young, Nampa; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by an infant son and 8 sisters.
