Taylor studied for the Ministry at Harvard (1823) and Andover Theological Seminary (1827) but ill health forced him to return to the Worcester Farm in Hollis. He was interested in the doctrines of the new Jerusalem Church of Emanuel Swedenborg and was an editor of a revised translation of Swedenborg's work "The True Christian Religion"
