William was a member of Co H NH 7th Reg during the Civil War. He Enlisted in October 1861and was mustered out in December of 1864. He served in the Carolinas and Florida. After his father's death he maintained the Worcester farm on Depot Road in Hollis. He was a charter member of the Hollis Grange in December 1873 and became the Grange Lecturer.
