Richard Shaw of Lacon, Illinois, enlisted in Co. D, 77th Illinois Infantry 2 Sep 1862. He mustered out 10 July 1865 at Mobile, Alabama. (U. S. Civil War Soldiers Records & Profiles)
The pension record lists his widow's name and the year the pension was granted.
Most likely, he died in 1895. Someone had this gravestone placed 40 years after his death. I believe that the person who makes out a gravestone application such as this is also responsible for placing the gravestone, which might explain why it was shipped to a different county in Illinois.
