"PIONER OF NEPONSET IS LAID TO REST"
"Mrs. Ann Studley Norton Dies of Infirmities After 84 Years' residence Near Here -- Lived in Log Cabin on Bureau Farm."
"ABOUT 90 YEARS OLD"
"Neponset, Dec. 19 -- (Special) -- Mrs. Ann Studley Norton, a pioneer and one of the most widely known and best loved women in this vicinity, was laid to rest in the local cemetery yesterday afternoon, Mrs. Norton, who had lived in central Illinois (most of the time in Osceola and Neponset) for some eighty years, died of the infirmities of age at 7 o'clock Saturday morning. She was about ninety years old.

The funeral service was conducted from the Methodist Episcopal church at 1:30 o'clock , the Rev. A.M. Stocking in charge. Rev. C.L. Mills assisted. Mrs. Norton had been a devout follower of this faith throughout her life; in fact, the local Methodist church was organized in her home and met there for worship regularly for a long time. the bearers were: E.C. Studley, Victor Studley, Frank Bumphrey, C.C. Hood, Karl Scaife and Will Studley.

Born in England -- In 1827 Ann Studley was born in Normanby, Yorkshire, England. Here she lived to the age of six, when, with her parents, she came to America. She remembers well the old home in England and the voyage in a sailing vessel across the ocean and of seeing a field of icebergs. She also remembered the trip across the states from Quebec to Naples, near Jacksonville, Ill.

At the age of twenty, Mrs. Norton was united in marriage to George Norton and went immediately to housekeeping in a cabin, which was already prepared and partly furnished. In this cabin she lived about ten years, when, a few rods west, Mr. Norton built the house where E.F. Norton now resides. In this home Mrs. Norton spent the busy part of her life caring for the home and a family of ten children, all living to manhood and womanhood. Four preceded her in death.

Six children Survive -- The remaining six are Thomas, Osceola, Iowa; Irene, Streeter; Edwin F., Levi G., Emma and Eliza of Neponset.
Wishing to give up the cares of the farm, Mrs. Norton moved to the village of Neponset 17 years ago to spend the remaining part of life in quiet. Mr. Norton preceded her in death 29 years ago.

Devoted Christian -- Mrs. Norton was the daughter of Wm. Studley and Annie Chapman Studley. She was one of the oldest of a family of 11 children -- three of whom died in childhood at the old home in England. Seven grew to manhood and womanhood. Of these two remain: Christopher C. Studley and Mrs. J.P. Bumphrey of Neponset. In early womanhood, Mrs. Norton united with the Methodist church and in her home, church services were held for nineteen years."
