CHARLES APPLEBY RITES CONDUCTED
Last rites for Charles E. Appleby, 85, were held Saturday, Apr 19 at 2 p.m. in Goettsch funeral home, with internment in Oakwood cemetery. Rev. Gideon I. Krein of the First Presbyterian church of Monticello, officiated. Mr. Appleby died Thursday afternoon at John McDonald hospital after a brief illness.
He was born Nov 30, 1873, the son of Homer and Isabel Sauer Appleby at Sand Springs. He married Nellie Price Oct 28, 1897 and she preceded him in death in 1947. They lived in the Monticello community all their life. Mr. Appleby had a shoe repair shop in Monticello until his retirement 20 years ago.
His survivors are four sons, Clarence, Aubrey, Claude and Robert, all of Monticello; two daughters, Mrs. Ralph Lambert and Mrs. Rebecca Griffith of Monticello; one brother Fred of Manchester, 14 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
