Mrs Eva Bernard, 80, a longtime resident of State Center, passed away Friday morning at the Bryant Nursing Home where she had been a patient for about four years. She had been in declining health since suffering a stroke years ago.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from St Paul Lutheran Church with the Rev Elmer J Braun in charge. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery.

Mrs Bernard was born February 14, 1879 at Bryan, Germany, the daughter of Conrad and Catherine Deiner Biesnecker. At the age of six she came to the United States with her parents, and the family settled on a farm near Melbourne.

She was united in married to Edward J Bernard at Melbourne on October 13, 1897 and the couple farmed near State Center. Mrs Bernard had made her home in town for the past 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1947; a daughter, Mrs Alva Ethington in 1940; a son Raymond, in 1951; two sisters and three brothers.

Surviving are three sons and two daughters, Adolph of Perry, Everett of Union and Earl, Mrs R H Wengert and Mrs Glen Thompson of State Center; a brother, Conrad Biesnecker of Conrad, 19 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
