According to U.S. Civil War Soldier Records and Profiles, Silas M. Bucknam (spelled incorrectly as Buckman), a 26 year old Carpenter from Northampton, Massachusetts, enlisted as a Private on December 30, 1861. He enlisted in Company B, Massachusetts 31st Infantry Regiment on December 30, 1861. He was promoted to Full Corporal and mustered out on June 17, 1865.
