SHREVEPORT, LA - Emma Lorene Putnam (Winderweedle) Allen passed away on May 19, 2011. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shreveport. Officiating will be Father Karl Daigle.
Emma was born in Checotah, Oklahoma on November 7, 1917 and was a resident of Shreveport since 1957. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church since 1957 and was a member of the St. Joseph Choir since 1986 and a longtime member of the Church Guild and the Altar Society. Emma was a registered nurse and served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corp during World War II.
Emma was preceded in death by her father and her mother, six siblings, her first husband, Bailey Winderweedle, and her second husband, George Allen. She is survived by her nephew, Jack Rankin and his wife, Mary, of Arlington, Texas.
Special thanks are extended to Synergy Home Care's Connie Buur and Mona Ryan for their care and especially to Dorothy Kemp for her genuine love, compassion and tender care for Emma.
Funeral arrangements will be handled by Rose-Neath Marshall Street Funeral Home with interment in Forest Park Cemetery. Honoring Emma as honorary pallbearers will be Thomas G. Thoma, Michael Van Vranken, John Munger, Jack Rankin and the members of the St. Joseph Choir.
In lieu of flowers, Emma requested that memorials be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shreveport, Providence House, or the charity of your choice.
