Following is a discussion between Bill Gawne (WCG) and his mother, Maureen Elizabeth O'Ryan Gawne Ybarra:

Maureen: Then came Michael, the mechanic, who had his garage in Hazel Park for years, He met Gloria whose name I never knew, and he had eight children.

WCG: A big man who had to use crutches to get around. Owned a Texaco service station on Joh n R. street in Hazel Park (suburb of Detroit).

More from Maureen: Yes, Mike was the station man with the Texaco trucks. Danny inherited his Dad's along with Jimmy, Mike's youngest son. and yes Julie was one of the daughter's. she may be alive in Memphis, TN and was married to Robert Dow. As usual I played for their wedding, my usual gift. Perhaps you could find them in the computer. Mike's children, were, Michael, Jr. Patricia who married an Irish American whom I cannot remember Joanne, who died right before she was to be married. Then Danny who lived in Troy or Warren, MI. with his family . He is about John Ware's age. Then Julie Catherine, after this came Margaret who lived in the Chicago area last I heard. Then Gloria who married a fellow who taught in Oakland Co college. Lastly came Jimmy, and he and Dan ran the garage, Sullivan's Service on John R. Rd . Dan, Mary and Julie all had red hair.

(Maureen, commenting about Hazel Park) In the old days Mike and Gloria and Den and Mae were in the sticks.

Still more from Maureen: did I explain how he finally got to be a cripple??? He was marching with the Knights of Columbus from Detroit over in Windsor on a fine day and for some unknown reason, the old wound gave out in his hip and he had to come home in an ambulance or some such. then to Ford Hosp. or so for the radical operation on the already bad hip. that was way back. when Dad and I were first married. Mike went about three times before it took to heal but the doctors were amazed that it lasted from his childhood. good Irish stuff. You cannot imagine how he felt then and the family of course, as well.it had to be in the early fifties. anyhow he lived on, of course, with a limp. I do remember visiting him at the old home he and Gloria had and he being on a chair. and Gloria wondering how her husband would survive, as they told him he was lucky he still had a leg. It could have been Harper hospital, and now I think it was. he was never quite the same but still did his jobs, with the help of the sons. he was a model for your daddy for a long time, and makes me wish daddy would have stayed around him longer. but that did not happen. asi es la vida. He was stronger that John Foley was with dad. and could make him do as he should Old John had his own strength, but not enough to batter the world.
