Patrick Fox was born June 18, 1919 in the family residence at 944 N. Main St., Butte, Silver Bow, Montana, USA. (The house no longer exists.)

Patrick and his twin sister Bridget Fox were born prematurely.

Sadly, Bridget was stillborn. She is buried in the Baby Land section of Holy Cross Cemetery, Butte, Block 44, Lot 25.

Patrick's parents were:

Mary Anne Lowney Sullivan Fox (1880-1940), widow of Daniel Sullivan (1867-1912). She is buried in the old Foildarrig (Lower) Cemetery which is only about a half a mile from the outskirts of the town/fishing port of Castletownbere, Co. Cork (South-West), Ireland.

John "Jack" Fox was born in Lisdoonvarna, County Clare, Ireland.
Mary Anne Lowney Sullivan's second husband whom she married in Butte, Montana, U.S.A., was Jack Fox from Lisdoonvarna, Co. Clare. About 1920/1921 they returned to the townland of
Inches in the Parish of Eyeries, Co. Cork (South-West). After a few years, Jack went to work in Canada. In 1936 Jack died in Windsor, Ontario; he drowned in the Detroit River. Jack was buried in Heavenly Rest Catholic Cemetery, Windsor, Ontario, Canada: Saint Jerome Section, Row 4, Site 195.

Patrick had half-siblings, children of his mother and her first husband Daniel Sullivan (1867-1912): Jeremiah; Julia Josephine "Sister Consolata;" Mary "Mae;" Ellen "Nell;" Michael; Margaret "Peg;" and Agnes M.

The following narrative is by Maureen Elizabeth O'Ryan Gawne Ybarra, Bill Gawne's mother:

Mary Anne met Jack Fox, in Butte. and married him and had a baby, Pat, and a twin. In time you and i met Pat, who was born in 1918, and died on my 39th birthday. Yes, he was a tortured soul. and suffered from schizophrenia. He had shock treatment in Ireland and then much later returned to the USA. I met him in 1952 when he was there with Nell and Peg, in alternate days, etc. By then he was advanced into his mental state, [....]. Yes, his dad, Jack, did leave and came to Windsor, and contacted the family often. He died around 1936, after falling into the river Detroit. I went to the funeral, and it was raining so bad it is still in my memory. But in his childhood, Patrick was told he just died and never knew much about him, except that he missed his father. Apparently he was strange, or so Nana and Auntie Agnes said.
But as long as he lived he sent money to Mary Anne. The farm was sold before or around the time Patrick died, so no one got much out of it. His life was so sad, and when we first came here he was with Agnes and John Foley, after having worked in Globe at the mines. He would take off, and go for walks for days, which is the reason Auntie Agnes put him into the institution out in Northvill, MI.

Also re Pat Fox the farm was in Inches Eyeries. It was about ten acres. also as for his going away, that is why we went back to Detroit in 1962 as he was missing for around three months and of course as he had been in Nana's care she was very upset. We had to wait for you [Bill Gawne] to make your First Communion and then leave. We were to return.

More narrative from Maureen O'Ryan Gawne Ybarra::

My aunt Mary Anne was a widow in 1912, and came to America to live with her sister Agnes and bring her oldest two daughters, Mae and Nell. She left the others with her mother in Derimihan. Castletownbere. In time Mary married again and that was to Jack Fox, and they had a son, Partrick. and a little girl who died at birth. they were twins. That was in Butte Mt. and Jack and Maryanne then returned to her farm in Inches, Eyeries.

(This being her father's farm, which her brother John gave to her. -- WCG)

He added to the farm by ten or so acres. and then left her when Pat was around ten to come back to Canada. He lived in Windsor, Ont. and died when I was about six or so. and the funeral was at the Janisse brothers.
