Seraphin Kaney Jr. was born Kähni in Adelhausen, Baden, and came to the USA in 1817 with his parents and siblings. They settled in the Fishing Creek Valley in Perry county, PA. At the age of 20, Seraphin moved to Allegheny county in search of work. He became the foreman of Peterson's Salt Works in Tarentum, PA. Upon retirement, he bought a farm in New Alexandria, Westmoreland county, where he died after being thrown from his horse.
