Upon arriving in Canada he was never processed through the Canadian orphanage. His records from England reveal he absconded upon his arrival at the Canadian port.
From Canada he crossed the ice of the St. Lawrence River into the United States and was raised by the French Canadian Benjamin family of Tupper Lake, New York, USA.
George married Margaret Pauth better known as Marguerite 27 May 1914 in Whitesboro, Oneida County, New York, USA. She was the daughter of Miner & Catherine (Arnold) Pauth. From this union were 8 children: Robert, Alice, Edward, Virginia, George, Catherine, Carol, and Gordon.
During the 1920's George returned to Tupper Lake with his wife and children to visit the Benjamin's. His daughter Alice remembers their visit well.
He made his living working in the knitting mills of the Mohawk Valley and worked his way up to forman.
Grandfather was a tap dancer and entered a talent show with his young daughter Catherine.
He also brewed his own beer where the family resided in New York. He was a sharp pool player.
