From the History of Hocking Valley, pg. 1161 & 1162: "Jacob Byerly was an early settler in Swan Township, locating in 1820 in his 21st year, having been born Feb 20, 1799. He married Susan Hass the same year...Mr. Byerly was a straightforward, honorable man, and was well known in McArthur. He was a carpenter by trade."
Vinton County Wonderland of Ohio, pg. 29: "The reader will observe that during this period (1815 to 1851 inclusive) there were many large families. I recall from personal research and from other records five families that had 51 children: Bothwell, 6 boys, 2 girls; Jacob Byerly, 6 boys, 4 girls; Robert Sage, 6 boys, 3 girls; Benjamin Reynolds, 8 boys, 6 girls; Joe Gill, 8 boys, 2 girls."
