Emily Kobus Nickerson, 34, Kingsport died Saturday (May 21, 2011) at Wellmont HVMC. Born in Valparaiso, Indiana, she had lived in Kingsport since 1987 and was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School. She graduated in violin performance from Appalachian State University.
She was a beloved music teacher at Sevier Middle School, a loving mother, daughter and auntie. She was an active member of Symphony of the Mountains and the Johnson City Symphony. Survivors include her husband, Virgil Nickerson, Kingsport; twin sons, Virgil and Tyler Nickerson; parents, William and Janise Kobus, Kingsport; sister, Ellen Lawson and husband, Darrell, Jacksboro, TN; two nephews, Cameron and Colton Lawson; maternal grandmother, Arlene Beldon, Valparaiso, Indiana, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will receive friends from 4:30-7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2011, at First Baptist Church, Kingsport. Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church with Dr. Marvin Cameron, Rev. Michael Wrye, Rev. Danny Silvey, and Dr. Kellie Brown officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Symphony of the Mountains, 1200 East Center Street, Kingsport, TN 37660, www.symphonyofthemountains.org/ or to the charity of one's choice.
