Francis was the son of George and Agnes (O'Connor) McIlvenna. He was born on the farm of his Grandfather McIlvenna. He had spent his life in the Emmet community.
Francis had been a member of the congregation of St. Joseph's Catholic church, where he had been an altar boy for several years. Francis was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters of the Emmet court.
Francis was taken to St. Vincent's hospital in Sioux City for an emergency operation on a ruptured appendix. He seemed to be fine after the surgery; but, he suffered a relapse four days later and died the following morning. Francis was survived by his parents, three brothers, and one sister.
