Francis had been a member of the congregation of St. Joseph's Catholic church, where he had been an altar boy for several years. Francis was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters of the Emmet court.
Francis was taken to St. Vincent's hospital in Sioux City for an emergency operation on a ruptured appendix. He seemed to be fine after the surgery; but, he suffered a relapse four days later and died the following morning. Francis was survived by his parents, three brothers, and one sister.
