Ora D. (Dunnie) Crane, 48 years of age, prominent farmer, died suddenly at his home Saturday in Geneva. He was stricken while at work on his farm about 6 miles northwest of Clinton, and was taken home by his son where he died before a physician arrived. He had been in ill health for a number of years.

In his youth, Mr. Crane was popular in baseball circles having played here and in various leagues in the country. At the time of his death he was engaged in farming. He was a veteran of the World War, having served in the U.S. Artillery. He was a member of the Stanford Masonic Lodge in Green County, the Moose Lodge and the American Legion.

Mr. Crane was born in Helt Township, the son of E.K. and Emma Stokesberry Crane, and was one of 5 boys, all of whom served in the Army.

He is survived by the wife, Mrs. Esther Krueger Crane; one son, Allan; the mother, Emma Crane, of Fairview; 4 brothers; Cecil and James of Center; Kit of Newcastle; Arthur B. Crane of Indianapolis; and a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Mr. Crane, his wife and son, spent 5 years in the gold mines of Alaska, from about 1929 to 1934. In order to reach supply stations from their post it was necessary to fly 300 miles by airplane.

Funeral services were held from the Fairview M.E. Church at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, with Rev. Harold R. Hotchkiss officiating. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
