Born July 24, 1915 in Raritan, he was a son of the late Salvatore and Theodora Bengivenga Basilone.
Mr. Basilone lived in Raritan all his life and was a purchasing agent with Inmont Corp. in Bound Brook. He also was a reservist with the Raritan Police Reserves.
He was a member of the John Basilone Parade Committee honoring his late brother, the Marine Corps sergeant from Raritan who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. The elder Mr. Basilone was a former member of the Sons of Italy and Somerville Elks Lodge 1068, located in Bridgewater.
His wife, Anna Rose Grasso Basilone, died in 2000. Also preceding him in death were four sisters, Phyllis Cutter, Katherine Marino, Dolores Hawkins and Mary; and three other brothers, Angelo, Alphonse and George.
Surviving are a son, John and wife Reenie of Raritan; a daughter, Carolyn Basilone Barrow and husband Maxwell of Tewksbury; a brother, Donald and wife Jean of Florida; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
