Son of Peter and Fannie (Brinkerhoff) Ryle.

John Ryle was a grandson of John and Sarah (Morfitt) Ryle. He was the President of the John Ryle Real Estate Association in Paterson, New Jersey. The company managed the extensive real estate holdings of the original John Ryle, known as the "Father of the U.S. Silk Industry" who had once owned all of the Passaic Falls property in Paterson.

JOHN RYLE, ENGINEER GRANDSON OF FORMER PATERSON MAYOR, 83.

John Ryle, 83, of 599 Broadway, died unexpectedly Sunday morning at his home.

A life-long resident of Paterson, he was the son of the late Peter and Frances (Brinkerhoff) Ryle. He was married to the former Eleanor Baker who died in 1962.

He was the grandson of former Mayor John Ryle, founder of the John Ryle Silk Mills. He was the nephew of William Ryle, founder of the Passaic Water Company.

Mr. Ryle was a waterworks engineer with the Passaic Valley Water Commission. He retired in 1962. He was a life member of the American Waterworks Association and belonged to the North Jersey District Water Conference.

Mr. Ryle was a member of the Hamilton Club, North Jersey Country Club and Arcola Country Club. He was a member of the Church of the Messiah Presbyterian Church.

The funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Almgren Funeral Home, 336 Broadway. The Rev. Newell C. Grimes, pastor of the above church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Cemetery.

Surviving are a son, John Jr., of Ridgewood; a grandson, John Ryle III of Ridgewood; a granddaugher, Mary Elizabeth Ryle of Ridgewood; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Fayerweather of Saddle River, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
