Lt. W. James Arthur Murphy, 52, of 5885 Cunard Street, Halifax, died Friday in Victoria General Hospital.
Born in Halifax, he was the son of Hazel (Corkum) Murphy Clark and the late John William (Buster) Murphy.
He was a community relations officer for the Halifax Fire Department and was a diving instructor for more than 20 years.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, the former Maureen Giffin, a daughter, Joanne, Dartmouth; a son, James, Bridgewater; a stepdaughter, Susan (Mrs. Michael Rowan), Dartmouth; a stepson, Edward Purcell, Halifax and New York; two brothers, Jack, Windsor, Ont; and Charles, Calgary; and a granddaughter.
He was predeceased by an infant sister, Hazel.
The body is in Snow's Funeral Home. Funeral will be 11 am Tuesday in St. Matthias Anglican Church, Rev. George Ebsary officating.Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
