Leona Mae McKee was the daughter of Leo Arthur McKee and Ona Mae McBride McKee. She grew up in Edna and graduated from Edna High School 1936. She then attended Coffeyville Junior College graduating in 1938. On October 16, 1938 she and Kenneth Eugene Cary were married at McCune, Kansas. They raised three children: Marcia, Arthur and Margaret. Leona Mae was a member of the Edna United Methodist Church, Royal Neighbors of America and the Coffeyville Stamp Club. She and her husband Kenneth were active in area square dance associations and were know for her volunteerism which included the Edna Historical Society, Edna Museum, Edna Senior Citizens Center and the Southeast Kansas Area Agency on Aging. She enjoyed needlework and collecting stamps.
