The deceased served seven months in the United States army in the field artillery branch, being sent to Camp Taylor for training, later being moved to Ft. McLallen, Alabama, where his company was on the eve of a departure for France, when the armistice was signed. He received his discharge last February and returned to the farm, where he assisted his father also doing some carpenter work on the side.
Alva Stoner was born November the 8th, 1891, to Cora and Frank Stoner, in Stark county, Ind., and died in Cleveland township, Whitley county, January 5, 1920, at the age of 28 years, 1 month and 27 days. He came to Whitley county with his parents at the age of three years and has resided practically all his life on the farm in Cleveland township. He was unmarried and leaves besides a grief stricken father and mother, five sisters and two brothers; namely, Mrs. Harry
Jenkins, of Cleveland township, Mrs. Gale Walgamuth, of Kosciusko county, Ethel, Ruth, and Nettie Stoner, at home, and Fred Stoner, of Cleveland township, and Paul, at home.
Although the young man was not a member of any church he made a confession of faith last Saturday. The funeral arrangements will be announced later.
