Master carpenter, mason, farmer, fisherman and outdoorsman. He was forced to abandon his farm in Latvia and flee his home country with his family during the Soviet takeover of the Baltic countries in WWII. He settled in upstate NY and resumed his work, nearly single-handedly building several beautiful homes in the Malta Ridge area near Saratoga Springs. He remained physically active and working up until nearly 90 years of age.
