Arie Blom (= Flower) was born in September 1865 in the dyke and truckfarmers village Broek op Langedijk in the northwestern part of the Dutch western province Noord-Holland, the eighth of ten children and the second of three sons of the 42 years aged laborer Jacob Blom and Feetje Blom [should be: Teetje Dekker], named for his maternal grandfather Aarjen alias Arie Dekker. Source: scan birth certificate (geboorteakte).

His mother Teetje Dekker died in December 1876 at the age of 50 years at her birth and residence place Broek op Langedijk. His father Jacob Blom was then a laborer.

His father Jacob Blom (57, laborer) remarried in April 1880 in Broek op Langedijk to the one year older Pietertje Bakker, but she died less than a year later in February 1881 at the age of 59 years in Broek op Langendijk.

Arie Blom (16, workman), his father Jacob Blom (58 y, workman), his brother Jacob (14, workman) and his sister Aagje (10) arrived on 7 April 1882 on the ship Pollux, which departed from Amsterdam, at the port of New York. Their last legal residence place in the Netherlands was Broek op Langendijk.

On 31 March 1888 Arie Blom requested a court in Lake County, in the utter northwestern part of Indiana, for becoming a naturalized citizen of the United States. On 31 March 1892 he was naturalized by a court in Cook County, Illinous, very probably in Chicago. The witness lived in the Dutch truck farmers settlement Roseland, nowadays a southern district of Chicago, so Arie Blom was residing there too very likely. In the document was wrongly noted that he arrived on 10 April 1881 in the USA; it was in reality on 7 April 1882.

Arie Blom married on 7 October 1891 in the Dutch truck farmers settlement Roseland, Cook County, Illinois at the age of 26 years to the four years younger Peternelly M Bult, [born in March 1869 in Chicago, daughter of Peter Bult and Petronella Margaretha De Wit, both born in the Netherlands]. Minister J.W. Dunnewold was officiating.
They had 8 children together.

In June 1900 Arie Blom (36 y, born in September 1864 [should be: 1865] in Holland, immigrated in 1880 [should be: 1882], merchant grocer), his wife Petronelle (39 [should be: 31], March 1861, [should be: 1869] Illinois), their children Tadij (8, July 1892, Illinois), Peter (6, September 1894) Illinois), Jacob (4, June 1896, Illinois) and Petronelle (2, Juy 1898, Illinois) were living in a rented home at 10902 Wentworth Ave, Calumet Township, Ward 34, in the southern part of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. In 1910 Arie Blom (44, farmer on a general farm), his wife Petuonella (41), their children Peter (15), Jacob (13), Peteronella (11), Trinie (9, Illinois), Aggie (7, Illinois), John (5, Illinois) and Arrie (2, Illinois) were living in Thornton [Township], just south of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. In 1920 Arie Blom (54, farmer), his wife Petronella (51), their children Petronella (21), Trina (19), Agnes (17), John (15) and Arie (12) were living in North [Township], Lake County, in the utter northwestern part of Indiana. Source: 1920 US Federal Census.

In 1930 Arie Blom (64, laborer), his wife Petronella (61) and their son Arie Blom Jr. (22) were living in an own home, worth $3000, at 18287 Ada St, Lansing, a southern suburb of Chicago, Thornton Township, Cook County, Illinois. Source: 1930 US Federal Census.

In April 1940 Arie Blom (74, no occupation) and his wife Petronella (72) were still living at 18287 Ada St., Lansing, Cook County, Illinois. They lived in 1935 at the same house. Right next to them, at number 12289, their son Arie Blom Jr (32, Illinois, truck driver at a laundry company) was living at a rented home with his wife Minnie (33, Iowa) and their daughters Marilyn (4, Indiana) and Karen Lee (5 months, Indiana). Arie Blom passed away in July 1943 at the age of 77 years from shock and hemorrhage from an operation he had at St. Margaret's Hospital in Hammond, Lake County, in the utter northwestern part of Indiana. His widow Petronella died in September 1947 in Lansing at the age of 78 years. They were both buried in Homewood Memorial Gardens, just west of Lansing, Thornton Township, Cook County, Illinois.
