Wm. E. Garrett, 73, Giltner Resident, Succumbs Monday
Member of Prominent Pioneer Family; Dies Suddenly on Street
---William E. Garrett, widely known resident of the Giltner community, who had spent 69 years in this county was stricken suddenly near the noon hour Monday within a few steps of the doctor's office. He has been in failing health for 19 years.
---Impressive rites were held from the Aurora Christian church on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Hancel Collier of the Methodist church of Giltner and the host pastor, Rev. K. E. Harris officiated. Mrs. Donald Beins and Mrs. Robert Ernst sang, "Does Jesus Care?" and "Beyond the Sunset," accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Harley Warren.
---William Everett Garrett was born July 13, 1879 at Waynesville, Ill., and passed away at Giltner on Feb. 11, 1952, in his 73rd year. When a lad of 4 years he came with his parents by immigrant train to Hamilton county, Nebraska, where they settled as pioneers and where he spent the remainder of his life. Most of his active life was devoted to farming and to livestock interests. He was one of a family of 8 children of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Garrett. It was a very devoted family and for many years they all lived in close proximity in the Giltner community.
---On Dec. 3, 1902 he was united in marriage to Miss Clara Emma Sharp. To this union one daughter, Esther May, was born. Mr. Garrett was a devoted husband and father.
---He was baptized in 1916. His daily living gave evidence that he possessed a courageous spirit. In spite of failing health for the past 19 years he faced the future with a steadfast hope and fortitude. He was a respected and successful member of his community. He made many friends and was ready to help whenever he could.
---Death overtook him just a few yards from the doctors office where he was going for his usual treatment.
---Surviving are his wife, one daughter Mrs. Harold Edgerton of Belmont, Mass., three grandchildren, Mary Louise, William and Robert Edgerton, two brothers, Lee and Elmer Garrett, and two sisters, Mrs. Fannie Anderson and Mrs. Edith Grogan, all of California, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
---He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mrs. Louella Bowlin, and two brothers, Frank and Thomas.
---Pallbearers were Carl and Don Schrock, John Stahlnecker, Leroy and Earl Jemison and Lee Shike.
---Burial was in the Aurora cemetery.
