Mary Hopson, daughter of John and Sarah (Northam) Hopson, was born July 2, 1705 in Colchester, New London, Connecticut. Her mother died when she was 2, and her father died when she was age 8. Jonathan Northam was then made the guardian of Mary and her brother John on September 4, 1714.

Mary Hopson married Thomas Treat on May 10, 1726 at Glastonbury, Connecticut. Thomas and Mary had 5 sons and 6 daughters from 1727-1742, and resided on the homestead of the Treat Farm in South Glastonbury, where Thomas died January 15, 1780 and Mary died December 24, 1786.
