THE KANSAS CITY STAR.
SATURDAY, JUNE 8, 1957.
A MINISTER 65 YEARS
DR. ANDREAS BARD TO PREACH HERE TOMORROW.
Church He Was at for 41 Years Will Be Host for Anniversary Sermon.

Dr. Andreas Bard will return to St. Mark's Lutheran church, of which he was pastor 41 years, to preach at 4:30 o'clock tomorrow in a program observing his 65 years of continuous ministry.

The subject of the pastor emeritus will be "You Are Never Alone."

A reception will follow the service.

Oldest on Rolls.
At 85, Dr. Bard is believed to be the oldest active minister on the rolls of the United Lutheran church. Although he retired from St. Mark's in 1950 and now lives in Manhattan Beach, Calif., Dr. Bard has continued preaching regularly as guest preacher at churches in Southern California, frequently preaching twice each Sunday. In May he completed a 6-month period as pulpit guest of the First Lutheran church of Los Angeles and immediately became pulpit guest for a month's time at the Trinity church of Manhattan Beach. Except for tomorrow, he is preaching each Sunday this month at the Gloria Dei church of Long Beach.

In his 65 years as a minister, Dr. Bard has missed only one Sunday service, and that was because of laryngitis.

Born in Germany.
Dr. Bard was born in Mecklenburg, Germany. He was one of five sons of German Lutheran Bishop Paul Bard. All five sons became Lutheran ministers, and three daughters married Lutheran clergymen.

Ordination of Dr. Bard took place in June, 1892, in Dubuque, Ia., after his graduation from Wartburg Theological seminary.

Dr. Bard is author of several poems, an opera and a number of volumes of sermons and essays. His most recent book is "A Vitamin Called Faith." Dr. Bard years ago traveled the Chautauqua circuit. He once engaged in a debate with the late Clarence Darrow on "Is Religion Necessary?"

Two new songs penned by Andreas Bard are featured on "Memory Lane" radio program on WDAF, Kansas City, on Sunday, May 29, 1938.

The first, about Missouri, is being contemplated for adoption as the official song of Missouri.
He penned the second, "Light at Eventide," as a tribute to his 94-year-old mother.

Dr. Bard will also deliver a Memorial Day address.

As one can see here, his influence and thoughtful ideas also touched the lives of people far from Kansas City where he pastored and delivered sermons at St. Marks's Lutheran Church.
