When De Wilton was 5 years old, his father's Mill was moved to Granville, Missouri. As it was being assembled, they noticed some pebbles inside. De Wilton was the only one small enough to crawl throught the opening, so it was his job to remove the stones.
He married the beautiful and shy, Elge Ford in 1876. They had a good life together, in spite of his poor health. For a time they ran the General Store in Granville, later selling it before it burned down. He suffered a severe stroke and was an invalid for 10 more years until his death. He was lovingly cared for by his dear wife Elge, and his daughters. Unfortuntely his only son ran away from home never to be heard from for years.
