Cyrus Harry Grett, Jr., 89, of Katy, Texas, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, June 12, 2011. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on April 19, 1922 to Cyrus Harry Grett, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Davidson Grett of Mary Grett School, Corpus Christi Independent School District. His maternal grandparents owned the Fulton Mansion in Fulton, Texas. He would spend his summers and a few early school years in Fulton, Texas. It was there that he met a little girl of five, Edna Rowe, from the neighboring Oak Shores. One could not have imagined that these playmates and good friends would marry on July 3, 1943 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockport, Texas. Cy graduated from the old Corpus Christi High School now Roy Miller. He joined the Navy in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945 and then spent nine years in the naval reserves. Cy spent his working career in the oil patch moving his family from Texas to Louisiana and back again. He even traveled to the North Sea, China, Middle East, Far East and Australia for work. Cy went to work for Vector Cable a division of Schlumberger, in Houston in 1969; and decided to 'settle down' and buy a house. He retired from Vector in May, 1987 and grew 'itchy feet'. Cy and Edna bought their first motor home and were off traveling again. Occasionally, they had extra passengers (the grandchildren). They moved from Missouri City to Katy, Texas in 2009 to be closer to their daughter.

Cy is preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, William (Billy) Franklin Grett.

He is survived by his wife of almost sixty-eight years, Edna of Katy, Texas; son, Harry (III) and his wife Cheryl of Elgin, Texas; daughter, Sue and her husband, Jim of Katy, Texas; grandchildren, Rus (IV), Tracey, Matt, Jeff, Joanna, Michelle, Dan Eric, Carter and Lindsey; twelve great granddaughters and five great grandsons and one great-great grandchild on the way; and his sister, Betty Lipstreu of Corpus Christi, Texas.

Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 15, 2011 until service time at 11:00 a.m. that same day at Cage-Mills Funeral Directors, 4901 Everhart Road.

Interment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
