John Hendrikson dies visiting Wisconsin
Former Worth County resident John E. Hendrikson, 83, of Downey, California, died Sunday, September 16, at a Menomonie, Wisconsin hospital. He suffered a heart attack while visiting relatives in Wisconsin. Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Menomonie Lutheran church. A service also will be held Saturday at the Lutheran Church in Lynwood, California. Burial will be in Green Hills Memorial Cemetery, California. John E. Hendrikson was born August 11, 1896, in Deer Creek Township, to Oscar and Pernilla Hendrikson. He attended school in Wisconsin and was a World War I veteran. He was a butter maker in northern Minnesota, and was employed as a machinist after moving to California. He married Gladys Nelson February, 1947 in California. He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, Rebecca Hendrikson; four brothers, Everett, Harwick, Pearl, and Sophus Hendrikson, and two sisters, Ida Cowles and Olga Prestegaard. Survivors include his wife, Gladys; a son Donald, Northwood; two sisters, Mrs. Nina Behling, Menomonie, Wisconsin and Mrs. Walter (Stella) Jones, Boyceville, Wisconsin; 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mr. Hendrikson also is survived by several nieces and nephews, including two who once made their home with his family, Mrs. Wendell (Eileen) Oien, Long Beach, California, and Mrs. Mark (Helen) Wikstrom, Selma, California.
