Born Aug. 26, 1880 in Darksville he was the son of Joseph Edward and Julia Frances Rice Cooley. He had lived in Moberly since 1900.
He was a conductor on the Wabash railroad. He was a member of the Union Avenue Christian Church; Royal Arch Chapter, 79 of the 344 Masonic Lodge; Centralia Council 34 and Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, 57.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Julia and his second wife Bertha Hawley, Jan. 28th, 1970.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mabel Brown, Belton, Mo., and Mrs. Ann Loree, Shipley, Calif. Three step-sons, Dwayne Hawley, Elmhurst, Ill.; John Hawley, Boise City, Okla., and Lowell Hawley, La Puente, Calif. One step-daughter, Mrs. Louise Peterson, Hollywood, Calif.
Several nieces and nephews. Five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at the Cater Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Larry Jones officiating, Masonic services will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
