Obituary, The Oklahoman, September 13, 2005
Edna Christine Parmelee Shannonhouse, 79, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2005. She was born on September 20, 1925, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to longtime Capitol Hill High School principal and educator Arthur Hugh Parmelee and his wife, Edna Margaret Gehring. Parmelee Elementary School, 6700 South Hudson, Oklahoma City, is named after her father. Christine married Joseph G. Shannonhouse, III on February 21, 1944, in Oklahoma City. She was a devoted wife and loving mother.

Christine is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Arta, Margaret and June; and her brothers, Jimmie and Bill. She is survived by her husband and four children: Joseph G. Shannonhouse, IV and his wife, Tracey, of Oklahoma City; Margaret Kathleen Shannonhouse, also of Oklahoma City; Hugh Parmelee Shannonhouse and his wife, Becky, of The Woodlands, Texas; and Rebecca Claire Shannonhouse of Stamford, Connecticut. Christine is also survived by 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, her brother Bob Parmelee of Muskogee, Oklahoma, as well as many nieces and nephews.

First and foremost, Christine lived to care for her family. Over the years, she was Boy Scout den mother or home room mother for all of her children. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening, home decorating, collecting antiques and spending time with her beloved pets. A caring, generous and compassionate person, she made many lifelong friends. In addition to being a homemaker, she was, for many years, a successful real estate agent and office manager for her son Hugh's former business in Oklahoma City. Both Christine and her husband have been active members of the Central Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Those who knew her best will especially miss her boundless love for her family, her deep appreciation for nature, her love of dancing and music, her elegant penmanship, her playfulness, exuberance, sweet voice, soft touch and beautiful smile. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2005, at the Central Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Oklahoma City. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.
