Sam'l Dahlgren of Bishop Hill at Life's Close:
The death of Samuel Dahlgren – aged 74 years 5 months and 26 days occurred Monday afternoon 4 August 1924 at the home of his daughter, Mrs Lavine Gustafson, residing three miles north east of Bishop Hill.
He was born in Bishop Hill on 8 Nov 1849. His parents were members of the Bishop Hill Colony and he spent the first twelve years of his life in the Swedish Colony. He was employed when old enough as a driver of oxen that the colonist used in tilling the soil.
The colony was disbanded when Mr. Dahlgren was 12 years of age. Then for several years he was employed upon different farms in that vicinity. In th year of 1868 he was united in marriage with Miss Martha Johnson of Bishop Hill. Mr. Dahlgren was engaged for several years following his marriage in farming.
His wife preceded him to death by two years. His health had been failing for several months.
Several years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Dahlgren moved from the Bishop Hill vicinity and came to Galva where they purchased a home on Sixth Avenue. After the death of his wife, Mr. Dahlgren continued to reside at his home alone until this spring when the conditions of his health made it necessary for him to be removed to the home of his daughter as she could care for him.
The survivors are the daughter, Mrs. Gustafson, Bishop Hill, a son Victor Dahlgren of Galva, two brothers Hans Dahlgreen of Bishop Hill and Jonas Dahlgren of Timber Lake, South Dakota. and two sisters, Anna and Christine Dahlgren of Bishop Hill and five grandchildren. Interment will be in Bishop Hill Cemetery.
