Henry and Nancy (nee Skaggs) Rigsby are my 3rd Great Grandparents.

Please note that there is a discrepancy in the dates on this headstone and read further for my thoughts on it.

According to the 1900 census, Henry was born in December of 1834. It is possible this could be incorrect. Often times, the person giving the census taker the information was someone who wasn't sure about their facts. Henry was the son of Lewis Rigsby (b 1810) and Elizabeth "Betsy" Deboard (b 1810).

On Jan 16,1853, at the age of 18, Henry married Nancy Skaggs, 17, in Lawrence County, Kentucky.

These two family's celebrated quite a few marriages together. Nancy's brother, John, married Henry's sister, Lucinda, about 1850. Nancy's brother Peter, married Henry's sister, Mary Jane.

Henry and Nancy had nine children:

Mary J Rigsby Blair (1855 - 1932)
Sarah Ann Rigsby Kelly (1857 - 1919)
John Breckenridge Rigsby (1857 - 1925)
Martha Margaret Rigsby Phipps (1862 - 1916)
Lewis Clayton Rigsby (1864 - 1939)
Clarinda Rigsby Slone Lovelace (1867 - 1934)
Elizabeth Rigsby Howard (1870 - 1941)
Henry Sanford Rigsby (1875 - 1943)
Peter Sherman Rigsby (1877 - 1970)

Henry died sometime after June 2, 1900 and prior to his wife, Nancy's death in November of 1914 when she was listed as a widow on her death certificate. At the time of the 1900 census, he and Nancy were living with their son Henry Sanford in Bloomington, Magoffin County, Kentucky.

I have found no record of Henry or Nancy on the 1910 census. They are not listed as living with any of their children. I found a family tree that listed Henry's death occurred in February 1902, however there was no source for that claim.

I did find a Civil War Pension card for Henry that gave an Invalid status as of June 11, 1892. I wonder if this is where the year 1892 comes from on this headstone.
