MRS. CATHERINE MERKLE
Thursday morning at 3 A.M. Mrs. Catherina Merkle passed away at her home on North Minnesota street. She had been ill only three days, her ailment being bronchitis.
Mrs. Merkle, nee Catherine Marsch was born November 6, 1842 in Bohemia where she spent her childhood days and came to America in 1888. She came directly to New Ulm and spent the rest of her life here.
In 1869 she was united in marriage to John Merkle who preceded her in death seventeen years ago. Ten children blessed their union, nine of whom survive. They are as follows: Martin Merkle, Mrs. John Schimpf and Mrs. Frank Mitchell of Minneapolis, Mike, Lorenz, George and Kate Merkle of this city, Charles, St. Paul; Mrs. George Palmer, Butte, Montana. Besides these there are ten grandchildren.
Deceased was a member of the Germania Sisters' Lodge at the time of death. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Forster's undertaking room and the remains were laid to rest in the City cemetery. Captain Albert Steinhauser officiated.
Note: Mrs. Merkle's first name is spelled both "Catherine" & Catherina in this newspaper article.

I just sent you the obit for Catherina Merkle. Some of the dates in the obit do not seem correct, but I copied the obit as written. It said she came to America in 1888 Then said she was married to John Merkle in 1869. I believe she came to America in 1868 & the 1888 date is a newspaper typo. I don't know if you want to just change it in the actual obit or make note that 1888 is the way it was typed in the obit.
