Folk Figure. He was considered to be the "foremost psychic of his time." Born in the Netherlands in 1911, he claimed he received his "gift" after waking from a 3-day coma in 1941 after receiving a brain injury received by falling from a ladder. He claimed to be able to peer into the past, present, and future. Among his many well-known abilities were working on cases of missing planes, missing persons, and famous murder cases, including The Boston Strangler, The Ann Arbor Co-Ed Murders, and The Sharon Tate Murders. In 1956 he was brought to the United States by Dr. Andrija Puharich, to Glen Cove, Maine, so that he could study Hurkos closer. He remained in Maine for almost 3 years. Later, he was a consultant to Presidents from Eisenhower to Reagan. He was also honored with a statue of himself being erected in Center Square in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, by Queen Juliana, as well as many other honors. Also a part-time actor, he appeared in films including "Boxoffice" (1982), "Bitter Heritage" (1979), "The Amazing World of Psychic Phenomena" (1977), and "The Mysterious Monsters" (1975). He also appeared on the television programs "Matt Houston", "Alcoa Presents: One Step Beyond", "The Phil Donahue Show", "The Ed Sullivan Show", "Geraldo", "The Merv Griffin Show", "The Johnny Carson Show", and "What's My Line?"
