Guyon was active in the militia, accepting in 1807 a commission as a Captain in the Second Squadron, First Division of Cavalry. He was promoted to Major in 1814 and in 1819 became Colonel and Commander of the First Regiment of Horse Artillery. He served in the New York Assembly from1812 to 1814. He was the Democratic-Republican candidate for US House in 1818. He appeared to have been defeated, but successfully contested the election of Ebenezer Sage and assumed his seat, serving from January 14, 1820 to March 3, 1821. Guyon was not a candidate for reelection in 1820 and returned to his farm and business interests. His business, the Guyon Store and Tavern, has been restored and is part of the Staten Island Historical Society's "Historic Richmond Town" exhibit.
