Elizabeth "Betsey" Otis was the daughter of Col. James Otis (born 26 June 1751-died in September 1837) and Sarah Holmes (born 20 October 1753 - died 16 February 1821).

Betsey married Ralph Chapin on 27 October 1808 in Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts, son of Solomon Chapin (1751-1820) and his cousin/wife Vashti Chapin (1753-1830).
