Morton May Dies In Connersville

Was One Of This County's Old Citizens


Morton May, 91, a former resident of Vevay, Route 2, passed away at the Lincoln Manor Nursing Home at Connersville, Ind., early last Saturday morning, following an illness of several months.

He was the son of Joseph (sic) and Sallie Branham May and was born in Owen County, Ky., January 1, 1860, On December 19, 1878 he was married to Miss Katherine Long of Kentucky, who passed away several years ago.

Surviving now are three sons, Arthur May of this county, Robert May of New Albany, Stanley May, of Indianapolis and a daughter, Mrs. Lottie Beagle of Covington, Ky.

Mr. May was a member of the Methodist church at Bethel, Ky., and was a fine gentleman with many friends. Several years ago he moved to this county where he resided until taken to the Home at Connersville.

The last rites, with Paul Bennett officiating, were held at the Haskell & Morrison funeral home here at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon and interment was made in the Greendale cemetery at Lawrenceburg.

Morton was the son of Josiah May and Sarah Ann "Sallie" Branham. He married Nancy Catherine "Katie" Long in Owen County, KY on January 19, 1893.

Children of Morton May & Nancy Catherine "Katie" Long:

•1. Mayme Lotta "Lottie" May born November 14, 1896 in Owen Co, KY. (Lottie's Death Certificate Gives her date of birth as 1901, but she was listed on the 1900 Census, which makes that impossible).

•2. Robert Morton May born December 23, 1898 in Owen County, KY.

•3. Stanley May born about 1901 in Owen County, KY.

•4. Arthur Joseph May born March 24, 1906 and died November 25, 1986 in Webster, Sumter County, FL.

•5. Ernest L. May born 19 May 1915 in Carroll County, KY. He died July 20, 1929 in Lawrenceburg, Dearborn County, IN.
