Lad Drowns in Ohio
The Ohio river claimed another victim Saturday morning with the drowning of Ernest L. May, fourteen year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Morton May of St. Clair street, this city.
The lad in company with George Jarvis and Warren Kemper had been playing ball at the fair grounds when they decided to go in swimming. They went up the river to what is known as "the tumbles" and were soon in the water. The May boy being unable to swim got into deep water and sank from sight.
Following the drowning the two companions of the lad became frightened and it is said hid for several hours and the parents of the unfortunate lad were not informed of what had happened until two o'clock in the afternoon, although the drowning occured at ten in the morning.
When it became known that the boy had drowned searching parties went to the scene and down the river towns were notified to be on the lookout for the body. The search continued until Monday afternoon when the body was found floating in the middle of the stream about half way between Tanners Creek and Wilson Creek by his brother, Stanley, and a companion.
The body was taken to the short at the Aurora water works and undertaker Moon notified. He removed the body to the Moon and Schopmeyer Funeral Home in this city where it was prepared for burial.
The boy had lived in Lawrenceburg for the past seven years coming here with his parents from Carroll County, Ky., where he was born. He was a member of the graduating class from the city schools the past term and had intended to enter high school in September.
Surviving are the parents, three brothers, Robert of Aurora, Stanley and Arthur of this city and one sister, Mrs. Lottie Webb of Warsaw, Ky.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p. m. at the Christian church, Rev. Dampier officiating. Burial in Greendale cemetery.
