George Grange, son of Thomas Grange and Rose Dilley, was a native of Wisbech St Mary, Cambridgeshire, England. He was baptized there on 15 May 1842. George immigrated to the United States with his mother and siblings aboard the Plutarch, arriving in New York on 16 Nov 1857. (His father had presumably arrived earlier.) The family settled in Orland, Cook, Illinois. George was one of at least seven siblings. He served in Company F of the 100th Illinois Infantry, from 1862 to 1865. George survived the Civil War and married Caroline Talbott, daughter of Henry Talbott and Ann Stuckey, about 1867. He was the father of at least two children. George died at the age of 35 and was interred in Orland Memorial Park Cemetery. In addition to his original headstone, there is a second, military headstone which was installed in 1934.

Sources include England baptismal records, passenger lists, census records (1851 Wisbech St Mary Cambridgeshire; 1860, 1870 Orland IL), military records including the 1929 Illinois Roll of Honor (War Veteran Burials), cemetery records, and his headstones, as well as the records of family members.
