Mary Hampton was born in 1687, in Elizabeth Town, Monmouth county, New Jersey, a daughter of Quakers, Andrew Hampton and Margarit Cumine, who immigrated from Scotland soon after their marriage in 1683. (Some sources say it was an elopement)

In the historic Elizabethtown Purchase of 1664 — the Lenni Lanapi gave a group of English settlers title to an immense tract of land that extended from the Raritan to the Passaic Rivers, and westward for over thirty miles. Union County was formed on March 19, 1857, from portions of Essex County. The Andrew Hampton ancestral home, St. John's Parsonage, is now occupied by the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs, Department of Parks and Recreation, and is listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places. Mary married Ephraim Terrill, whose father, Thomas Terrill moved to East Hampton on the southern shore of Long Island, New York, in 1688. A copy of the Terrill family Bible may be viewed here: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CS41-59YQ-G

Mary and Ephraim became the parents of children, Ephraim and Isaac Terrill. Mary died May 3, 1733, in Elizabeth Town, New Jersey. Her father, Andrew, wrote his Will in 1738, in Elizabeth Town, and named his daughters, Margaret Ham(p)ton, Johannah Lambert, Elizabeth Olliver and since Mary had pre-deceased him, he named Isaac Terrill to receive her portion of his estate.
