GRAND RIVERS — Mary Catherine Whitman Calhoun, age 77, of Grand Rivers died Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Calvert City Convalescent Center in Calvert City.
She was retired as a cook for Grand Rivers Elementary School, where she worked for 28 years and was a member of Grand Rivers Baptist Church.
She was the daughter of the late Edgar Whitman and Rosie (Mason) Whitman.
She is survived by her husband, John Lacy Calhoun; two daughters, Lisa Coleman and her husband, Dwight of Grand Rivers and Beth Yates and her husband, Jeff of Grand Rivers; one son, Johnny Calhoun and his wife, Diane of Ledbetter; one sister, Nellie Cole of Nashville, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Jon Calhoun of Ledbetter, Noel Yates, Miranda Yates and Breanna Coleman, all of Grand Rivers; and one great-grandchild, Lauren Calhoun of Calvert City.
She was preceded in death by brother, Obie Whitman and three sisters, Louise Carter, Ruth Pepper, and Mattie Ezell.
Funeral services will be at Grand Rivers Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 3, 2011 with the Revs. Mark Gill and Allen Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Dixon Cemetery in Grand Rivers. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 2, 2011, at Collier Funeral Home. There will also be a visitation at the church Sunday, July 3, 2011, from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.
