Mary Fay Stevens was always called "Mae" by her family members. She is a daughter of Thomas Fay and Margaret Maher. She married William Henry Frank Stevens in New York City on 22 May 1912. They lived and raised their family in New York City. Their first child was a son, John Edward Stevens, born in 1913. He tragically died in 1916. They had four other children, all girls. Their daughters were Margaret, born in 1915; Marie Catherine, born in 1916; Doris, born in 1922 and Irene, born in 1924. Tragically, her husband William Henry died in 1926, leaving her with the four young daughters to raise during the upcoming years of the great depression. She lived as a widow for 40 years before she died in 1966.
