Alberta's own words: "My time has expired here on earth. I have left to explore new learning experiences. Leaving many friends & neighbors. Also a God-given beautiful family. Two daughters, Melinda & Nola, & 2 sons Frank & Jon. Nine grandchildren: 6 boys & 3 girls. Each of these being the other half of my beautiful God-given family. My love & thanks to each of you. To my wonderful husband of 55 years, I cannot think of a way to thank him & let him know the joy he has brought into my life, Love forever. To my Al-Anon family, Good-by & God bless."

Alberta Harmon was born 4 Sep 1929, in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, a dau. of Amos Harmon, III & his 2nd wife Bessie SHAW Harmon. Alberta was my cousin & I asked her if she was named for Alberta, Canada. Alberta replied: "No, My Dad named me after a lady that he admired, whose name was Alberta."

Interview by Melinda, oldest daughter of ALBERTA HARMON, in Alberta's own words of her early family life: "I always felt I had a very loving, caring family. But we were not accepted by society. People looked down on us because we were poor, too big a family, uneducated, retarded. But Daddy always built up our self-esteem & told us we were as good as anyone else. In elementary school, I was the only white kid in my class. I was the 2nd oldest, but neither my older sister or Mother were really able to cope with challenges of daily life; so, I pretty much took care of house & kids."
