He was born October 11, 1973, in Lubbock. He graduated from Monterey High School in 1992. He attended Texas Tech University and later moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to attend school.

He married Natalie Tyrcha on March 15, 1999, in Las Vegas, Nevada. he was a member of Trinity Church in Lubbock.

Survivors include his wife; his mother, Judy Holton Scott of Lubbock; his father Dale Holton of Lubbock; a sister, Becky Perrin of Dallas; his maternal grandparents, Troy and Ruby Perry of Lubbock; and his paternal grandmother, Louise Holton of Lubbock.
